Installation, in plain English.

Click-lock floors are genuinely DIY-friendly — but open stairs, slab transitions, and tricky thresholds earn an installer their fee. We'll tell you which is which.

  1. 01

    Acclimate the boxes for 48 hours.

    Leave them flat in the room they'll live in. The planks need to settle to the room's temp and humidity or seams open up six months in.

  2. 02

    Subfloor needs to be flat, dry, clean.

    1/8 in over 6 ft is the standard. High spots get sanded, low spots get patched. Moisture meter the slab if it's concrete.

  3. 03

    Start along the longest, straightest wall.

    Tongue side facing in. Spacers along the wall give you the expansion gap that prevents buckling.

  4. 04

    Stagger seams ≥ 8 inches.

    Avoid a stair-step or H-pattern. Mix planks from at least three boxes at a time for natural-looking variation.

  5. 05

    Last row: scribe + cut.

    Most rooms aren't perfectly square. Mark the cut on the last row, score with a utility knife, snap. The baseboard hides it.
